Memorial Day in Wichita

We spent Memorial Day weekend in Wichita with the Schecks and Beymers. We got to go to the Sedgwick County Zoo and see the penguins. Penguins in Kansas? That's seems to be what Lydia was thinking. And poor Hanna got assaulted by a zoo employee. The guy felt so bad he brought back a couple of frozen treats for the kids.

Last Day of First Grade

Can't believe Cade is finished with first grade already. It seems like he was just Lydia's age and we were celebrating his new little tricks and milestones. He has learned so much and was so blessed to have had such a wonderful teacher, Mrs. Schmidtlein. Although he really enjoyed school, he is definitely ready for summer!

Back in Black (and Silver)

So true!

Pucker up, bro!

How could I put them in their black and silver shirts and NOT take their picture? The kids were enjoying some down time last Sunday while we were in Salina.

Cade's Field Day

Today was Cade's Field Day at school. It was a perfect day to be outside! The kids were in groups of different ages so the older kids could help look after the younger ones and the younger kids really enjoyed "hanging out" with the older kids. By far, everyone's favorite event was the one with the inflatable donut looking things. The kids got in them and pretty much tried to sumo wrestle each other over a designated line on opposite sides. It was a riot to watch! The younger kids just kind of fell on each other, but the older kids really got bounced around and in the air when they ran into each other. Lydia and I met up with Cade at school for lunch and when we got there, Cade asked his teacher if he could bring Lydia into his classroom to "show everyone Lydia." He loves his Lydia so much and is so proud of her!

Funny story

The gang's all here

Our little slugger at bat

We weren't sure if this particular game was going to be played or not because of the looming dark clouds and intermittent sprinkles two Saturdays ago. One inning when we were on defense, a runner from the other team slid into our second basemen. When he didn't get up and nobody came to his aid, Cade, being the empathetic, albeit witty boy that he is, yells, "Man down! MAN DOWN!", trying to elicit some kind of response from the coaches to render some aid to his fallen comrade. While we were all concerned for the downed player, we all couldn't help but laugh at Cade's comic relief. They ended up winning and the game had just ended when the thunder came and it started pouring.

Cade's big day

Cade got to read during mass last Friday. If he was at all nervous, you couldn't tell. He did such a great job!

Getting really good at being cute

Even when she's tired from a really long and busy weekend, Lydia still is full of smiles for us!

Spring Fling

Pirate's Revenge

Pure joy

Who doesn't love a bounce house?

This little cutie is Saige, a girl in Cade's class.

The mini ferris wheel

Lydia was hanging out with me under the red and white tent (that's why the picture has a pink hue), trying to keep warm

Awww! They are sooo cute!

This past Saturday was CRAZY! Cade's school had it's annual Spring Fling, complete with carnival rides, games, raffle drawings (we didn't get the Wii), food and a dance later in the evening. We got there at 11:00 when it started, left around 12:30 for Cade's 1:30 baseball game, went back to the school around 4:30 and stayed for the dance. Cade begged to stay for the dance, but I'm pretty sure it was because he wanted to hang out with Saige, Emery (another girl in 1st grade) and his pal Riley.

Lydia's latest trick

Watch me do a trick!

Ah-one,

and ah-two,

Here I go!

And that's how I roll.
