An Old Summer Friend

We finally were able to make it to SNFAC this summer. Ordinarily, we would have been half a dozen times by now, be we've been too busy to get there. Cade had his pal Riley over and we all spent a few hours in the 100+ degree heat cooling off.

Oh dear.

The beach. Is over. There.

The fact that she was terrified of this slide makes no sense.
(You'll see while later.)

Lazing in the lazy river.

This is an unfortunately hilarious photo.
(Don't see it? Click on it.)

THIS is why that little slide from before makes no sense.
She did this slide no less than 100 times.
I wish I was exaggerating.

Campus Life

A couple weeks ago I took the kids to Washburn to take some pictures of them at a cute little pond they have on campus. I couldn't believe how much plant life there was in it. Doesn't seem like it's been there all that long.
Here are a few shots of the most gorgeous water lilies and pads I've ever seen:

Here is Lydia noticing some of the more slimy varieties of life living in the pond.

Doesn't this frog look like a garden statue?

People call them koi. I call them carp. Bottom feeders. Scavengers. Gross...

Let's start the count, shall we? Here's one.

Ornamental turtle!

Two...and slimy as all get out.

Can you spot the two that are in this picture? Only one counts because the other one has already been accounted for. So we're up to three now.

Four! Four green, slimy frogs, ah-ah-ah!

Cinco!

Not sure what he's thinking here, but I'm glad I got this shot.
Probably something like, 'Man, I hope mom gets her shot. It's hot as heck out here."

This. Guy. Was. HUGE.
And he had purple stripes and polka dots?
*shudder*
We're up to six now, folks.

Mr. I-Eat-Guys-Like-Kermit-For-Lunch here brings the total to seven.
And that green stuff makes me gag every time I look at it.

Honestly, I expected to see seven long, sticky tongues come zapping in at this guy from all different directions and getting all tangled up Looney Tunes-style.

Ultimately, we left the pond and found a shadier place for a photo op.
Pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I did manage to get this one out there.

4th of July Memories

As with every 4th of July, I do my best to get pictures of my second favorite holiday. This year, I had my big girl camera, so I got to take some big girl pictures*.

*Read: there is a ridiculous amount of photos in this post.

First up, we went to the Beymer's annual party.
Lydia got to do sparklers, or as she called them, 'sticks', for the first time.

This had 'not such a good idea' written ALLLLLL over it!

Fortunately, they were able to chase this lantern down before the wind carried too far off and onto a neighbors roof.

Enjoying another stick.

This year Cade really got into lighting the fireworks.
I loved how excited he got about it.

Giving a show of her own.

Next up is the Boleski party.
We started off swimming in the pool, which, huh.
Didn't seem to get any pictures of that.
Can't imagine why...

Holy. Smoke.

Back in action.

So Lydia loves to sing.
Anytime. Anywhere.

She even convinced these 2 to be back up.

Thank you, Lecompton!
Good night!

EVERYBODY loving the sticks tonight.

Even the big kids.
Great R, Rusty!

Now back home in Knollwood.
Our neighbor Brian came over to enjoy what little night works we had left.

Lydia got tired of her poppers not popping when she threw them.
She just went around stomping them.

Then when she got tired, she just stomped in place.

Snakes.
Why'd it have to be snakes?

I. h@%*. These. Things.

Probably should've told him I was getting this angle.

Pew! Pew! Pew!
Looks like something right out of War of the Worlds.
I gotta admit this picture cracked us all up.

Gimme an 'S'!

To infinity...and beyond!

We could see Topeka Country Club's fireworks show from our drive way this year.

I actually love how the trees' silhouettes look in front of the fireworks.

I decided to move down the block a couple houses and I was able to get these photos.

This one reminds me of a perm that's gone horribly, horribly wrong.
