The Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn University now has an incredible exhibit of Legos. I think incredible isn't quite strong enough a word. Awe-inspiring? I don't know. Judge for yourself:

We were invited to meet the artist, Nathan Sawaya, beforehand and attend a breakfast at the alumni center.

Exactly!

Pssh. I could do that.

That's a life-size cello. With an actual bow made entirely of Legos.
And it's strung with real cello strings.

This is the artist's wife.
Click on it.
Now stand back from the screen.
Incredible, right?

Yes, that yes is made of Legos.

If you didn't click on the other photo, you HAVE to click on this one.
It's about a dozen men.
And it's an eye.

Lego family.

The other side.

The solar system. Including Pluto.

He was even able to capture expression with Lego.
My mind is officially blown.

Admit it. When you saw this one, you said in your head, 'I squish you like a bug!'
No? Oh, me neither.

Just a little bit creepy. It's called 'The Courage Within.'
Makes sense, but still just a bit unnerving.

Up top, man!

Check mate.

You ever just have one of those days?

The detail is amazing. It's like a basket weave.

These sculptures will be on display until the middle of September at the Mulvane Art Museum on the Washburn campus. If you're in town, you should definitely check it out. You'll be amazed and leave inspired. Just like Cade.

I'm on Board

I don't usually advertise the things I've got going on or things I've done that make me really proud...that's just not...me. BUT. This is something that I'm so totally excited and happy to be a part of. Rusty and I both graduated from Washburn. I absolutely loved Washburn. I bled navy and white. I cheered for the Ichabods when being an Ichabod fan wasn't cool, yo! The fight song is permanently etched in my subconscious. So when I was asked to join, I was ecstatic. I'm not even exaggerating. Click on the link and go to page 18. Not crazy about what they did to my pic, but who is? Guess that means I have to find a better one to put up here? And I would have put this up sooner, but the link to the magazine only recently was made available. That is all.

TIV was in Town

Yesterday, the TIV from Discovery Channel's Storm Chasers was in town. Not something you see everyday (thank goodness, because let's be honest, if you see these guys in your town and it's not a scheduled tour stop, you're probably in trouble. Amiright?), so it was definitely worth checking out. It looks a lot more...crude and Mad Max-like in person. Still pretty impressive, though. It kind of looks like a bank vault on wheels. From a galaxy far, far away.

This was some of the Discovery Channel crew. They were pretty cool. And I don't mean hip, en vogue or trendy. We're talking aloof, standoffish or frigid toward the general public who ventured out to get a glimpse of the TIV. I felt like saying, 'You're on a friggin' publicity tour, people. At least smile and feign interest.' Ugh.

Not sure what the dude on top was doing.
Probably just looking down on us 'little people'.

I half expected Chewie or Han Solo to pop out of here and start pew-pewing.

I don't know...maybe if Darth Vader needed some wheels on Tatooine...this is what it would look like?

Can you tell these cuties have been
swimming in the same gene pool?

Lydia in Rare Form

Oh, my. This was Lydia's first go at rollers. She's been asking me to use the curling iron in her hair and I just can't do it. So we picked out these twisty rollers. She was super excited to get them in. Can you tell? She was in rare form, indeed.

Looking more like Medusa than the beauty queen she felt like.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Find out what it means to me!

Gotta turn the world into your dance floor!
Determinate! Determinate!

Even when I'm a mess,
still I put on a vest
with an S
on my chest,
oh yes!
I'm Superwoman.
Yes, I am.

Soooo! Tell me what you want.
What you really, really want!
Iiiii'll tell you what I want.
What I really, really want!

Well shake it up, baby, now!
(shake it up, baby!)
Twist and shout!
(twist and shout!)

You talkin' to me???
Are YOU talkin' to ME??!

Sadly, the rollers only lasted about half-way through the night. Turns out her hair is just a little too fine yet. Got some really pretty waves, though!

Camp Add-em-up

Cade spent the week at Camp Invention, or as Rusty has dubbed it, "Camp
Add-em-up". If you have seen as many iCarly episodes as we have you know what we're talking about. This photo was taken the morning of 'Crazy Hat Day'. Anyway, Camp Invention was a week long day camp that encouraged invention, creativity and critical thinking. Participants minds and bodies are put to the test as they combine creativity, physical activity and fun. Cade came home exhausted everyday, but he enjoyed every minute of it. I'll post more pics from the last day that shows their projects at a later date.

Some action shots from Cade's game on Tuesday.

FINALLY getting to play first.

Then about 3 innings in, all these hot air balloons started popping up. It was great. There is a clearing near the lake that they like to lift off from. What a treat! Lydia and her little friends were amazed.

Y'all remember Showbiz? It was the original Chuck E. Cheese's.
