WU vs. FHSU

Last Saturday was another beautiful day to get out and enjoy some football. Washburn (4-1) hosted the Fort Hays State Tigers (also 4-1 before this game) and it looked to be a good game.
And it was.
The Bods won 28-14!

This might be my new favorite picture of Lydia.
Love how it looks like she only has one toe on the ground.

Whose house? That's right. Our house!

Somebody's REALLY excited to be at an 'Ichy-bods' football game!

Tail-gating. WU-style.

Chips! Good lunch, Mommy!
NO, that's not all I had for her to eat.
I'll have you know I packed a banana, a cereal bar, and umm, some
Nilla Wafers (OK, clearly not the best choice, food pyramid-ly speaking,
but she only at a couple.)

Wondering when I'll be able to get a normal, ordinary photo of these two
that doesn't creep me out.

Susie H., Delta Gamma/Washburn U. alumna extraordinaire.

Cade took this picture.
I like it.

This is Ron...something. He was my boss when I worked in the
athletic department at Washburn. Can't believe he's still there.
Actually, I can. I can't imagine the athletic department without him.

Oh, you crazy kids!

Best seats in the house.

It was AMAZING how fast items fall down this hill...

*ahem*

...like footballs, soda bottles, and um, camera lenses...

Cade got a bit tired of chasing all our 'stuff'.
We got a bit of a talking to from him.

Boooooooo!
This particular flag came out when one of our guys 'allegedly'
pushed a Tiger when they were out of bounds.
Not a popular call with the fans.

This was a spectacular catch that I missed by about 2 seconds.

These girls were so good, they didn't need any stinkin' yell leaders.
But I have to admit, I did have the urge to stuff a couple of Big Macs down the throat of the girl on top.

This apparently looked more fun than it actually was.

Ouch!

They scored on this play.

The PAT...

...it's goooooood!

Cade's classmate and fellow cub scout, Noah, was there, too.

OK...this is MUCH easier and more effective.

They're happy.

It's Fun to Play at the YMCA

A couple of Saturdays ago we went to the Y's family day, complete with a bounce house, obstacle course set up in the gym, a Wii fit station and a stage area where participants from the different classes could give a mini-demo of what the class was like. They also had remote control airplanes flying around the place and some really cool kites flying outside.
Pretty impressive, right?

Apparently not.

No, Lydia was a bit 'disappointed' that we didn't take her 'simmin'.

*sigh*

Should've known she'd be ticked we weren't going swimming. Although, to her credit, she finally came around, as evidenced by the following photos.

Cade getting ready to fire one right in the middle of the hoop.
Wait, what sport is this?

See, told ya!
Nothing but, umm, well.... not net...oh forget it. The hula hoop didn't move an inch.

'Jayhawk beesketball! My turn, Daddy!'

'I did it!'

'Kick!'

Yep.
Belly dancers.
It's one of the classes offered at our Y.
Can't accuse us of not being culturally diverse.

Lydia finally forgot she was mad about not swimming.

What kid doesn't love a bounce house?
Remember when we used to call them moon walks?

She couldn't WAIT to go down the slide.

She was sssooo excited!!!

Until she went down.
It doesn't look like she's enjoying the ride...

*giggle*
This shot just cracks me up.
She wasn't so sure she liked this slide.
I mean, it was one of the steepest slides I've seen in a while.
But I've got to hand it to her. She recovered well and went back for
more a couple times.

Even Cade was a little surprised the first time going down.

OK, admit it. You're laughing at my kids pictures, aren't you? Can't say I blame you. These aren't the most flattering photos, but man, they sure are hilarious!

Say WHAT?!?!

I don't normally make it a habit to 1) post profanity on my blog and 2) take pictures while driving. This, however, is an extreme exception and technically I still haven't done either. I came upon this truck at a stop light (the RED light clearly visible in the photo), so I wasn't driving. And as far as the profanity goes, well, you'll just have to see it to believe it.

Wait a second...does that say what I think it says?

Oh. My. Gosh. It IS what I thought...
Let's just hope that 'Bren' and the kids go with her last name on paper and not 'Phil
's'.

I'm Thinking She Likes Gymnastics.

Soooo, on Monday I took Lydia to a 'trial' gymnastics class. When I put this leotard on her, she said, 'simmin'?' which is Lydia speak for swimming. I told her no and tried explaining it to her, which luckily for me, seemed to work. Not sure how she knew or figured it out, but the moment we stepped into the building, she was giddy excited.
I mean bouncing off the walls,
can't-wait-to-climb-or-jump-on-something exuberant. Needless to say she thoroughly enjoyed herself and wasn't quite ready to leave when the class was over. We still have another gym to check out before we pick one, but I know this next time it won't be so difficult to explain it to her. She still gets excited and lights up whenever we mention gymnastics or the leotard.

Feeling like such a big girl!

'Leotard!' Or something that sounds like a cross between leotard and guitar.
Doesn't translate well into written word.

SO proud!

Excited for gymnastics!

Checking out the lay of the land in every possible corner.

Now, it doesn't look like she's enjoying herself right here. Of course, I didn't have my camera near me when she was crawling around in the foam pit, throwing foam everywhere and squealing. No, I get it when she's tired and wants to get out!

Trying her best to crawl up this contraption. Definitely her least favorite of all the apparatus, but again, didn't have my camera with me as I was playing along with her.

To Pooped to Party

Apparently the 34-7 KU victory against UTEP wasn't as exciting as we thought...

Way to Go 'Bods!

We took Lydia to her first WU game on 09/04 for their home opener. Lydia loved every minute of it, too. Cade had a blast as well. The 'Bods thoroughly enjoyed themselves, putting an 82-21 hurt on New Mexico Highlands Cowboys, setting a school record for points scored on an opponent. And I'm pretty sure I've NEVER heard fans cheer 'Warm up the bus!' during the first quarter. Yes, the Bod Squad actually chanted that during the first quarter. But can you blame them, really? It's like NMH didn't even show up. Some stats from the game:

* The Ichabods were 10 of 10 in red zone scoring opportunities.
* The 82 points broke the school record which was set during the 1900 season when the Ichabods beat Fort Riley 80-0. Against collegiate competition, the Ichabods topped St. Mary's of the Plains 79-3 on Sept. 9, 1978.
* The 61-point margin of victory tied for the fifth-largest win by an Ichabod team.
* The Ichabods used 62 different players against the Cowboys.
* The Ichabods went the entire game without punting.
* The 534 yards of total offense was the most since the Ichabods recorded 518 against Southwest Baptist on Oct. 10, 2007.
* The last time the Ichabods blocked a punt for a touchdown was on Sept. 23, 2005 when Jake Lebahn returned a Chris Brown blocked punt 15 yards against Southwest Baptist on Sept. 23, 2005 for a touchdown.
*The Ichabods had nine different receivers receive at least one pass.
* Travis Mosby led the Ichabods with 103 all purpose yards with 66 receiving yards and 37 kickoff return yards.
Not bad, huh?

Lydia was excited when we told her we were going to a football game.

My favorite 'Achabods' (Lydia speak for Ichabods.)

Playing catch with some of Dane Simoneau's (WU QB) family before the game.

Nice one!

'I love you, man!'
'No man, I love you!'
*mmmwwaaah*

The whole team and staff walking from Whiting to the field through a tunnel of fans.

Not sure when we got a Mexican Ichabod.
Maybe he just got a killer tan during summer break.

Cade made me take of picture of this (mutant mini Nilla Wafers)
and promise to put it on the blog.
There.

Oh, man. This takes me back...

'Go Achabods!'

So lovely.

Goofball.

This was the score.
AT HALF TIME!

'Go Big Blue!'

Our boys in blue.

This was the score when we left. We were pretty sure Washburn was gonna get a W at the end of this one.
